With the difference frequency between oscillators adjusted to zero with pure carrier gas flowing through the detector, the presence of a foreign vapor in the cell will produce a different frequency which is linearly related to the amount of material introduced through an injection port in the carrier gas stream and inversely proportional to the absolute temperature for a given component at a constant density or concentration in the cell and for a particular operating frequency. 2, record 3, English, - Clapp%20oscillator

The permissible limit for inhalation of a radionuclide is the appropriate ALI [annual limit of intake]. This is given in units of activity, Bq. Because it is often easier to measure and control the concentration of radioactvity in the air than to measure or control the intake, the ALIs are used to calculate the Derived Air Concentrations(DACs). The Derived Air Concentration, or DAC for any radionuclide, is that concentration in air, expressed in Bq/m³ which, if worked in for a year(50 weeks of 40 hours each for a total of 2000 hours per year), would result in the ALI for inhalation. The normal breathing rate, based on Reference Man, is 2, 400 m³ per year at work. The Derived Air Concentration is the ALI divided by the volume breathed in a year at work. 4, record 4, English, - derived%20air%20concentration

ICP-AES is an emission spectrophotometric technique exploiting the fact that excited electrons emit energy at a given wavelength as they return to ground state. The fundamental characteristic of this process is that each element emits energy at specific wavelengths peculiar to its chemical character. Although each element emits energy at multiple wavelengths, in the ICP-AES technique it is most common to select a single wavelength(or a very few) for a given element. The intensity of the energy emitted at the chosen wavelength is proportional to the amount(concentration) of that element in the analyzed sample. Thus, by determining which wavelengths are emitted by a sample and by determining their intensities, the analyst can quantify the elemental composition of the given sample relative to a reference standard. 2, record 5, English, - inductively%20coupled%20plasma%2Fatomic%20emission%20spectrometry
Record number: 5, Textual support number: 2 CONT
In inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry, the sample is usually transported into the instrument as a stream of liquid sample; inside the instrument the liquid is converted into an aerosol through a process known as nebulisation. Then the aerosol is transported to the plasma where it’s desolvated, vaporised, atomised and/or ionized by the plasma. The excited atoms and ions emit their characteristic radiation. A device sorts the radiation by wavelength. 1, record 5, English, - inductively%20coupled%20plasma%2Fatomic%20emission%20spectrometry

... monochromatic UV photometer available from Du Pont; similar designs are widely used in modern LC. UV radiation at 254 nm from a low-pressure mercury lamp shines on the entrance of a flow cell and is transmitted through this sample cell and strikes the analytical prototube. Radiation from the source also is directed through a neutral-density filter, and then to the reference photocell. Current from these photocells is fed to log amplifiers, which generate an output linear with solute concentration. The output signal to the recorder normally is attenuated with a simple bridge network. 1, record 22, English, - monochromatic%20UV%20photometer

Accuracy in sampling analysis could be determined by analyzing a reference material of known concentration(or value), or by re-analyzing a sample to which a material of known concentration has been added(recovery method). For example, if T is the total concentration of a water quality parameter in a spiked sample, U is the concentration of the same parameter in the unspiked sample, and A is the amount of the parameter added to the hitherto unspiked sample, the percent recovery R is calculated as [R equals(T minus U) divided by A, multiplied by 100]. 2, record 23, English, - spiked%20sample
