The National Artists Program, a federally funded project held in conjunction with the 2003 Canada Winter Games, will be held in Bathurst and Campbellton, New Brunswick from February 22 to March 8, 2003. The Program will focus on the following four artistic disciplines : Dance, Music, Theatre Arts and Visual Arts. The primary objective is to create artistic works inspired by and representative of the spirit of the Canada Games. The Games motto "Come Celebrate Winter", local settings, Games sporting venues, and the wide diversity of the participants should provide an excellent starting point for these artistic works. Four participants from each province and territory between the ages of 16 and 23 years of age(one in each of the four disciplines) will be featured during the two weeks of the Games. The participant will travel on the chartered airplanes as part of the provincial/territorial teams, the cost being borne by the federal government. The philosophy of the National Artists Program is to "bring together bright and talented young artists from each province and territory(representing a variety of disciplines) and challenge them, under the guidance of senior arts facilitators, to use the games as the inspiration for their art in order to see "the artistic and cultural dynamics that can be produced when the best of Canada's budding athletes come together with the best of Canada's emerging artists. 2, record 5, English, - National%20Artists%20Program

2, record 5, French, - Programme%20national%20des%20artistes

In 1999-2000, we continued our review of the impact of the RCMP [Royal Canadian Mounted Police] 's reorganization by conducting a study of the language requirement designations in New Brunswick. Based on a consultant's report, the RCMP decided to lower the language requirement for oral interaction for a number of constables’ positions from level C to level B, in order to ensure greater opportunities for advancement for constables who did not have level C. We concluded that this was contrary to section 91 of the [Official Languages] Act, which states that the language requirements of a position must be determined in an objective manner based on the real needs of service to the public and the language of work alone. 1, record 11, English, - language%20requirement%20designation

1, record 11, French, - d%C3%A9signation%20des%20exigences%20linguistiques

In New Brunswick and in British Columbia the federal government is funding the Self-Sufficiency Project, a controlled experiment designed to determine the effectiveness of an earnings supplement for single-parent social assistance recipients who take jobs and agree to leave social assistance. The intervention being tested is a limited temporary supplementation of participants’ earned incomes for a three year period in order to support the transition from welfare to work. This project is being managed by the Social Research and Demonstration Corporation. The project started in the fall of 1992 and is expected to span an eight-year period consisting of five years of operations with three years of follow-up research. 2, record 18, English, - The%20Self%2DSufficiency%20Project

2, record 18, French, - Projet%20d%27autosuffisance
