[L'indice de trophie] permet de situer chaque taxon sur une échelle selon ses préférences en matière de disponibilité dans le sol des nutriments (azote, phosphore). Ainsi, les valeurs des indices de bioindication [...] s'échelonnent graduellement de 1 (espèce croissant en condition oligotrophe, sur des sols pauvres en phosphore, nitrate et matière organique) à 9 (espèce croissant dans des conditions de concentration excessive en phosphore et azote comme des décharges, secteurs où s'accumulent les excréments d'origine animale).
