An epileptic manifestation of a restricted nature, usually without loss of consciousness, due to irritation of a localized area of the brain, often associated with organic lesions such as scar, inflammation, or tumor. May be manifested by the single motor, sensory, or sensorimotor component (Jacksonian convulsion), or may be psychomotor in type; the seizure may also spread to other regions of the brain and develop into a generalized convulsion with loss of consciousness. 1, record 1, English, - focal%20seizure

Crise épileptique dont les symptômes initiaux n'ont pas le caractère massif qu'ils présentent au cours des crises épileptiques généralisées, et témoignent d'une décharge neuronique plus ou moins localisée dans une partie d'un hémisphère cérébral. Du point de vue nosologique clinique, on distingue actuellement : des crises partielles à sémiologie élémentaire, motrice (crise jacksonienne, par exemple), sensorielle, ou végétative; des crises partielles à sémiologie complexe, psychique pure, psychosensorielle, ou psychomotrice.
