OBS

On dit aussi d'un peuplement qu'il est étagé si deux des essences qu'il renferme et qui constituent au moins 25 % du couvert ont une différence de hauteur d'au moins 5 m, et ce, même si les tiges appartiennent à la même classe d'âge (exemple : essence à croissance rapide, comme le tremble, et essence à croissance plus lente, comme le sapin). C'est l'âge de l'étage qui représente la plus grande surface terrière qui est indiqué en premier.
