Martin Friedland argues that the rule against unreasonably splitting a case "is undoubtedly the most important rule for the protection of the accused." The primary reason for such a rule is that separate trials for crimes which could be conveniently tried at the same time are a powerful means by which to harass an accused and ensure eventual conviction for at least one crime. 1, record 1, English, - rule%20against%20unreasonably%20splitting%20a%20case

1, record 1, French, - interdiction%20du%20fractionnement%20abusif%20des%20inculpations
