More quantitatively, in the case that no control rods are foreseen in the SC [sub-critical core], the level of subcriticality should be such that the core stays sub-critical when going from a “hot” state(i. e. normal operation) to a “cold” state(i. e. reactor shut-down). Since thermal feed-back induces generally(e. g. in standard fast reactors) a positive reactivity effect … going from “hot” to “cold”, one can require that the “cold” core should stay sub-critical even in the case of an accidental reactivity insertion … due for example to coolant voidage. 1, record 7, English, - accidental%20reactivity%20insertion

Gas-fired water heaters have a gas burner located below the tank, a thermostatic switch, a gas valve and a pilot light. The thermostat will open the gas valve when it senses the water temperature at the bottom of the tank has dropped below the present limit. Gas flows to the burner and is ignited by the pilot light, heating the tank from below. In addition, the hot exhaust gases are vented through a hollow core in the center of the tank to help heat the water. The exhaust is then passed into the draft hood and to the vent connector where it is discharged to a chimney flue. 3, record 8, English, - gas%20water%20heater

Natural convection, also called thermosyphoning, does not produce high flow. It cannot remove full power heat, but is adequate to remove decay heat. Natural convection occurs when cool D2O in the boiler tubes falls by gravity into the core. It displaces the hot, less dense D2O surrounding the fuel. The boilers cool the fluid pushed into them from the fuel channels, and it becomes more dense. The liquid that falls into the core expands on heating and becomes less dense. Thermosyphoning continues as long as the boilers continue to remove heat. 1, record 11, English, - natural%20convection

1, record 11, French, - convexion%20naturelle

The prankster's water bomb has matured into a new tool for fighting fires. Instead of low-flying helicopters and small planes pouring water over hot spots, Boeing has devised a way to use its C-17 military transports to bombard blazes with beach ball-size containers loaded with water or fire retardant. One advantage of using the multifaceted, biodegradable bombs is that they could be dropped with high precision, striking the core of the fire. Some 2800 containers bursting evenly at the same moment would be more effective than showering water from above. A fully loaded C-17 could deliver 144, 000 pounds of liquid in one spot or in several locations. Conventional "firebombers" usually empty an entire load in a single run. 2, record 12, English, - water%20bomb

Advanced Gradient Heating Facility(AGHF)... The AGHF supports the production of advanced semiconductor materials and alloys using the directional solidification process, which depends on establishing a hot side and a cold side in the sample(a temperature gradient). It provides an extremely stable temperature environment of up to 1, 400°C, high-temperature gradients of up to 100°C/cm in the solidification zone, slow movement of the gradient across a sample to provide slow growth rates, efficient cooling through the use of a liquid metal cooling ring attached to the sample container, and Peltier pulse marking capability. The AGHF consists of three modules mounted in one side of a Spacelab double rack : the Core Facility Module contains the processing chamber with the furnace inside; the Electronics Module contains the controls and equipment necessary to operate the furnace; and the Gas Storage Module contains argon for chamber repressurization and sample cooling. 2, record 14, English, - advanced%20gradient%20heating%20facility

Tapeless splicing is used to form face-veneer panels from several pieces. The backs and faces are glued to the cross bands and the core. The edges of the core are planed on the jointer. The core stock is edge glued and cut to panel size by a clipper machine.... All the plies are then ready to be glued into a sheet. Glue is applied to the sheets of veneer as they go through large rollers.... After the glue is applied to the cross-banded layers, core, face, and back panels, the press-gluing operation begins. The use of the giant hot press... is one of the crucial steps in the manufacture of plywood. Extreme pressure and controlled heat are used to cure(set) the adhesive.... After heating and pressing, skinner and trim saws cut the panel edges and stack the panels in one automatic operation.... 2, record 15, English, - tapeless%20splicer

Another process somewhat related to injection blow-molding is dip blow molding used for small containers. The process has the advantage of reducing some of the molded-in stress. A core rod is inserted into a cupel, displacing resin and packing it into the neck finish area. As the core rod moves away, a predetermined amount of resin is permitted to remain on the rod. A hot knife cuts the hot plastic, separating the material on the rod from the melt pool in the cupel. The core rod is then rotated to the blow station for blow molding. Hesta is a supplier of this type of machinery. 3, record 16, English, - dip%20blow%20molding

Insulated runner molds. A combination between a hot runner mold and a three-plate mold is called an insulated runner mold. The gating system is very similar to that of a three-plate mold except that the runners are very thick, at least 1 3/4in.(45mm) in diameter. There is no runner plate, and the backup plate and A plate are held together by latches. After the material is injected, the outside of the runner freezes but insulates the center, permitting the core to remain fluid at molding temperatures and act as a hot runner. 1, record 17, English, - insulated%20runner%20mold

The bonding methods include :(1) homofil bonding, in which all filaments are composed of a single polymer type, but some of the filaments have different melting characteristics. Bonding is achieved by a high-temperature calendering operation, accomplished by passing fabric between two hot rollers; and(2) heterofil bonding, in which some of the filaments comprise two types of polymers having different melting points(heterofilaments), while others have only one polymer(homofilaments). The heterofilaments have different softening characteristics from the homofilaments, and strong flexible bonds can therefore be formed at the heterofilament crossover points by controlled application of heat and pressure to fuse only the lower melting point polymer forming the sheat, while leaving the core and homofilaments unaffected. 1, record 19, English, - homofilament
