La thérapie par oxydation hématogène (TOH) est une variante de l'autohémothérapie. L'autohémothérapie est une thérapie par stimulation: le sang prélevé sur une veine est réinjecté dans le corps, tel quel, ou bien après un traitement supplémentaire. Le système immunitaire et le potentiel d'autoguérison de l'organisme se trouvent ainsi stimulés. Dans le cas de la TOH, l'effet de l'autohémothérapie est complété par une irradiation du sang avec des rayons UV. Le sang prélevé est également enrichi en oxygène et puis, émulsifié. L'émulsion augmente la surface sanguine, ce qui permet une meilleure absorption des rayons UV.
