Free products and dissolved petroleum components from the surface of the contaminated aquifer are captured and treated via multi-phase extraction & treatment. Bioslurping induces a horizontal vacuum gradient on the targeted monitor/recovery wells through a slurp tube which is inserted into each well. Product and groundwater are entrained in droplet form in a high velocity air stream and brought to the surface for treatment. Following air/liquid separation the liquid phase is treated by a combination of oil/water separation, air stripping, and liquid phase carbon treatment before being discharged. The off-gas is treated(if necessary) by vapour phase carbon treatment. The advantages of multi-phase extraction & treatment include : a high product to groundwater extraction ratio; aeration of the vadose zone which enhances natural biodegradation of the hydrocarbon contaminants; all treatment components may be housed in a turn-key mobile remedial unit; a simple product recovery technology which can be transferred to conventional remedial applications such as pump and treat, sparging and vapour extraction system(VES) applications. Air stripping is a technology in which volatile organic compounds(VOCs) are transferred from extracted water to air. Typically, air stripping takes place in a packed tower(known as an air stripper) or an aeration tank. The air stripper includes a spray nozzle at the top of the tower. It sprays groundwater that has been pumped to the surface over the packing in the column. As the water descends, air is forced up through the column, stripping off the volatile compounds.... Air strippers transfer contaminants from one medium to another. There is no destruction of the contaminant. Consequently, the risks of emitting pollutants into the air must be carefully evaluated. Often, the air stream(or off-gas) is treated before it is emitted to the atmosphere. 2, record 5, English, - air%20stripping

1, record 12, French, - surface%20de%20ruissellement

Trickling water through air... can be used by trickling the water over a layer of contact materials with a counter current of air... This method comprises a large number of falls and the maximum possible water trickle surface area. The rate of aeration obtained depends on the number of volumes of pure water per hour flowing over a predetermined volume of contact materials(coke, volcanic lava, Raschig rings, etc.), the nature and shape of the developed surface of these materials, and the rate of air circulation. 1, record 13, English, - contact%20material

The Aero-Accelator of Infilco, Inc.,... consists of a circular basin with a central well with an annular surface baffle. Aeration is produced within the central portion by means of a turbine mixer revolving over a compressed air diffuser. Path of flow is upward over the top of the central well, down under the annular baffle and into the outer quiescent zone, and upward toward a peripheral overflow weir. 1, record 16, English, - Aero%2DAccelator
