A statistical method that explicitly includes a prior probability distribution based on a subjective opinion or objective evidence, such as the results of previous research. 2, record 8, English, - Bayesian%20analysis
Record number: 8, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Bayesian analysis uses Bayes’ theorem to update the prior probability distribution in light of the results of a study, in order to produce a posterior distribution. It can be used in a single study or in a meta-analysis. Statistical inference(point estimates, confidence intervals, etc.) is based on the posterior distribution. The posterior distribution can also be used as the prior distribution for the next study. This approach is controversial when it depends on opinions, which may vary. However, its use has become commonplace in economic evaluation, as it allows the creation of complex models with different evidence sources and the determination of uncertainty. 2, record 8, English, - Bayesian%20analysis

Record number: 8, Textual support number: 1 CONT
1, record 8, French, - analyse%20bay%C3%A9sienne

Tin plate is now sold both on a weight per unit area basis and on a thickness basis. The old unit of area is the base box, equal to the area of 112 sheets, 14 by 20 inches, or 31 360 square inches (217.78 square feet). The new unit of thickness is the millimetre and the corresponding area designation for pricing and weight or area calculations is the SITA (System International Tin Plate Area) which equals 100 square metres or 4.9426 base boxes. ... The use of symbols to designate gage was displaced by the use of base weights (or basis weights) expressed in pounds per base box that also indicated the approximate thickness of the tin-mill product ... With the recent introduction of the metric system (SI) in production, gage is the basic unit for specification and area becomes only a derived value for commercial usage. 2, record 9, English, - base%20box

Tinplate sheets used to manufacture cans and boxes were originally packed into wooden boxes in order to protect the polished tin surface. Sheets cut to 35 cm X 50 cm(14 X 20 in) and of 0. 3 mm thickness weighed approx. 454 g(1 lb) and 112 were packed into a box, known as the "basis box". Variation in thickness of sheet cut to the same size would vary the weight, and larger sizes were made, although these were then called "tinned sheets". Modern production techniques favour reeling into rools for shipment, and protection with interleaving of paper or plastic where necessary. 3, record 9, English, - base%20box

Fer blanc (tin plate). [...]

A vast amount of sea ice information is today available at the various ice services in the world. Almost all of this information is stored in the form of ice charts for operational purposes. For statistical or climatological use the chart format is however not convenient and the information needs to be digitized. This is done by assigning numerical values to the ice parameters and to read these values at given grid points on the chart. The charts prepared by the various ice services do not all contain the same number of parameters. The resolution and accuracy also vary according to the use for which the charts are intended. A large degree of flexibility has therefore to be built into the design of both code, format and grid. It should allow digitization of historical ice charts as well as current ones in order to obtain a comprehensive computer-compatible sea ice data bank which is currently updated. The SIGRID format is mainly designed to meet larger scale climate requirements but it may also be used by national services for other purposes. 1, record 21, English, - Format%20for%20Gridded%20Sea%20Ice%20Information

Hazardous combustion products are chemicals which may be formed when a material burns. These chemicals may be toxic, flammable or have other hazards. The chemicals released and their amounts vary, depending upon conditions such as the temperature and the amount of air(or more specifically, oxygen) available. The combustion chemicals may be quite different from those formed by heating the same material during processing(thermal decomposition products). It is important to know which chemicals are formed by hazardous combustion in order to plan the response to a fire involving the material. 2, record 30, English, - hazardous%20combustion%20product

1, record 30, French, - produit%20dangereux%20r%C3%A9sultant%20de%20la%20combustion

Slow-speed plows equipped with stepped knives generally cut only in one direction, the cutting run being made at speeds of 15-20 ft/min and the return being made at 30-60 ft/min. In order to maintain productivity with the slow-speed plows it is necessary to take as deep a slice as possible during the cutting run and the depth of slice may vary from 6 to 12 in., according to the hardness of the seam. The machine is hauled along the face by a 7/8 in. diameter wire rope which is wound by a 40-h. p. electrically driven winch located in the tail gate. Slow plows have been successfully used in conjunction with pre-cutting of the face but it appears that they will be superseded by rapid plows because of the greater productive capacity of the latter machines. 1, record 31, English, - slow%2Dspeed%20plow

Rabot statique d'origine. 1, record 31, French, - rabot%20statique
