The tendency of a rotating body, when a force is applied perpendicular to its plane of rotation, to turn in the direction of its rotation 90 degrees to its axis and take up a new plane of rotation parallel to the applied force. 7, record 8, English, - precessional%20motion
Record number: 8, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Gyroscopic precession ... When force is applied to a gyro, the device reacts as if the force had been applied at a point 90 degrees from the point of actual application, in the direction of rotation. Precession affects propellers, which act like gyros, and gyro instruments. Its principle effect is on the heading indicator, which tends to drift over time. 8, record 8, English, - precessional%20motion
Record number: 8, Textual support number: 2 CONT
A gyroscope will not only resist being moved out of its vertical position, it will also generate force as it attempts to travel in large, circular patterns. These patterns are most easily seen with a spinning top. As the top begins losing its energy, it never simply spirals straight down in the same direction that it was originally spinning. As it destabilizes, it will always begin slowly rotating or precessing in a slow, even circle that is in the opposite direction to its normal spinning motion. These circular patterns are known as "precessional" motions, and they are another aspect of a gyroscope’s movement that will occur either in air or in a vacuum and can be used to overcome gravity. 9, record 8, English, - precessional%20motion
Record number: 8, Textual support number: 3 CONT
If an airplane changes suddenly from a nose up to a nose down position, as is the case during the take-off roll in a tail wheel airplane, the airplane will yaw sharply to the left as the pilot shoves the wheel forward to raise the tail. The application of right rudder compensates for the precession tendency. 7, record 8, English, - precessional%20motion

1, record 17, French, - suspension%20dynamique%20accord%C3%A9e

Record number: 23, Textual support number: 1 CONT
2, record 23, French, - inertie%20gyroscopique

Precession error. Frictional forces in the gyros system cause it to precess. This precession causes a creep or drift in the reading on the card, amounting approximately 3 degrees in 15 minutes. The gyro is also subject to apparent precession. Gyroscopic inertia keeps the spinning gyro fixed in space so that, relative to space, it does not move. But the earth rotating underneath it gives it an apparent motion relative to the earth. This causes an apparent drift, or precession, which varies with latitude... ... we conclude... that the inertia forces main moment for the rigid body rotation around the fixed axis has three components : the first one is purely rotatory around the rotation axis collinear with it if the angular acceleration is different from zero and it is proportional to the angular acceleration [xxx] and the body mass axial inertia moment for the rotation axis, [yyy] ;and the second deviational component is normal to the rotation axis which also depends on the angular acceleration and the vector [zzz] of the deviation load of the rotation axis; and third component depending on the angular velocity squared of the rigid body rotation around the fixed axis and on the magnitude of the mass deviation moment vector of the rotation axis at the pole in the stationary bearing. 1, record 34, English, - axial%20inertia%20moment

Gyroscopie [...]

Gyrometers and gyroscopes. Gyrometers measure the angular velocity. Such measurement is based on the measure of Coriolis forces for a mobile in linear motion, when an additional rotation occurs... Gyroscopes are made of a solid body with high angular velocity around an axis of symmetry... which induces a high angular stability in presence of perturbations. Such a device is used to preserve a fixed inertial orientation, while the rest of the system in in motion. It must be noted that both devices provide an information about angular velocity. The first device output is the instantaneous angular velocity, while the second device output is the integration of the angular velocity during a period of time. Angular position information can be computed from gyrometers output by integration, while angular velocity information can be computed from gyroscopes output by derivation. 2, record 35, English, - instantaneous%20angular%20velocity

If in a gravitational field you support a rotating body in only a single point that is not the center of gravity(center of mass), there is a torque acting on it; if the rotation is fast enough to be associated with a substantial angular momentum and the change in angular momentum effected by that torque is comparatively small, you will observe precession. Such a device is used to preserve a fixed inertial orientation, while the rest of the system in motion. It must be noted that both devices provide an information about angular velocity. The first device output is the instantaneous angular velocity, while the second device output is the integration of the angular velocity during a period of time. When a vertebral body is displaced anteriorly so that 50 percent or more overrides the vertebral body below there is practically always associated bilateral locking of the facets, due to flexion and distraction. A displacement of 50 percent or less of one vertebra upon the other is usually due to unilateral locking of the facets, resulting from a combination of flexion, distraction, and rotation.
