Dans le langage courant, les termes «rabais», «remise» et «abattement» sont à peu près synonymes, mais il existe entre ces termes des différences techniques. Le terme «abattement» peut désigner toute réduction consentie à l'acheteur sur le prix de vente d'une marchandise ou d'un produit; le «rabais» (appelé aussi parfois réfaction) est une réduction exceptionnelle attribuable à un défaut de conformité ou de qualité des articles vendus; la «remise» est une réduction dépendant de l'importance de la vente ou de la profession du client. Le terme «ristourne» désigne une réduction calculée sur l'ensemble des opérations faites avec un même tiers et le terme «escompte» s'emploie particulièrement pour désigner un escompte de caisse. 4, record 1, French, - remise
