3, record 6, French, - boosting

The application of [a] degaussing system started during the World War II to prevent the naval ships from magnetic mines and torpedoes. When the ship used to come near a magnetic mine or a magnetic torpedo, the magnetic field of the ship used to actuate the firing mechanism and cause the mine or torpedo [to] explode. The Eastern Scotian Shelf Integrated Management (ESSIM) Initiative is a collaborative ocean planning process being led and facilitated by the Oceans and Coastal Management Division (OCMD), Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO - Maritimes Region) under the Oceans Act. The ESSIM Initiative was announced by the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans in December 1998 and followed the recommendation from the Sable Gully Conservation Strategy that integrated management approaches be applied to the offshore area around the Sable Gully Area of Interest. (The Gully has since been officially designated as a Marine Protected Area under the Oceans Act.) The primary aim of the ESSIM Initiative is to develop and implement an Integrated Ocean Management Plan for this large marine region. This multi-year, strategic level plan will provide long-term direction and a common basis for integrated, ecosystem-based and adaptive ocean management. 1, record 24, English, - Eastern%20Scotian%20Shelf%20Integrated%20Management%20Initiative

1, record 24, French, - Gestion%20int%C3%A9gr%C3%A9e%20de%20l%27est%20du%20plateau%20n%C3%A9o%2D%C3%A9cossais

Special operations forces and support helicopter landing zones are generally covert. FP [force protection] is achieved by employing use of terrain and CCD [camouflage, concealment and deception] procedures. The FP presence must be balanced with the need to preserve operational secrecy. FP will normally be provided by the SOF [special operations force] units that are being supported. In the event of ground attack, the task of FP will be to warn landing zone personnel and to delay the attackers until the helicopters are able to depart. 1, record 42, English, - special%20operations%20forces%20and%20support%20helicopter%20landing%20zone

Another current point of debate concerns the importance of engineered barriers versus naturally occurring barriers in waste management facilities. ...
