Bruit de fond. Quel que soit l'appareil de mesure utilisé, le signal délivré n'est pas fixe et fluctue autour d'une valeur moyenne. Ces perturbations sont de trois ordres : à court terme, à long terme et la dérive. Le bruit de fond à court terme est généralement d'origine électronique provenant du système de capteur du détecteur ou de l'amplificateur. Sa fréquence est supérieure à celle d'un pic élué. Le bruit de fond à long terme est composé de perturbations de ligne de base de fréquence similaires à celle d'un pic élué.
