Dans chaque catégorie, le classement s'exprime en "degré" en fonction de temps pendant lequel l'élément satisfait aux différents critères. Ces degrés de résistance au feu réglementaires sont : 1/4h, 1/2h, 3/4h, 1h, 1h 1/2, 2h, 3h, 4h, 6h. Le degré retenu correspondant à la valeur immédiatement inférieure au temps pendant lequel l'élément satisfait effectivement les différents critères. Exemple : Un mur porteur, au cours d'un essai normalisé, donne les résultats suivants : Critère no 1 : 380 mm. Critères no 2 et 3 : 128 mm. Critère no 4 : 56 mm. Le classement de ce mur sera : SF [stable au feu] 6h, PF [pare-flamme] 2h, CF [coupe-feu] 1/2h.
