  • Coins and Bank Notes
DEF

One that forges or makes copies or imitations of current money.

CONT

Recent advances in so-called reprographic equipment (photocopiers, scanners, printers and the like) have led to fears that an epidemic of forgeries by a new class of offenders is just getting under way. Members of that group, known as casual counterfeiters, run off small amounts of funny money to help meet daily living expenses. ... Expert counterfeiters have been around since the first coins were minted.

Record 3 1999-11-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Internet and Telematics
  • IT Security
DEF

An online or offline hacker who steals copies of blockbuster movies, computer games, and software before their official release and makes them available free over the web.

CONT

the theft was not for profit. Bootleggers in it for the technical challenge rather than the money. Although it will take four days to download the 19th Bond adventure into an ordinary computer, users with high-speed telephone lines are able to make a copy overnight and then "burn" it onto a video CD which could be watched on any home computer.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Internet et télématique
  • Sécurité des TI
OBS
