Les membranes de pervaporation sont des membranes asymétriques, composites ou non, comportant une peau très dense. Le transfert de matière s'effectue par solubilisation-diffusion au travers de la peau.

Les polymères utilisés dans la membrane de pervaporation peuvent être hydrophiles (cellulose, PVA, alcool polyvinylique, poly-acrylo-nitrile, acétate et triacétate de cellulose), ou hydrophobes (silicones, polymères fluorés).

OBS

Les membranes de pervaporation sont le plus souvent planes. Cependant, toutes les géométries existantes pour les autres techniques membranaires peuvent être utilisées en pervaporation.
