Redundancy. If only one component exists to perform a certain function, when it fails, the system fails. This problem can be reduced by installing additional components, so that if one fails, there is another to do the job. In other words, higher reliability can be attained by providing a backup (or redundant) component. Redondance. Si un seul composant est voué à une fonction particulière, lorsqu'il subit une défaillance, c'est tout le système qui en subit les conséquences. Ce problème peut être atténué en installant des composants additionnels, de manière à ce que s'il y a une défaillance, un autre composant prendra la relève. En d'autres mots, une fiabilité plus élevée peut être obtenue en assurant la présence d'un composant de secours (ou redondant).
