The largest city of the province of New Brunswick but not its capital(Fredericton), located at Saint John River's entry into the Bay of Fundy, and named "Saint John" because Samuel de Champlain arrived at this harbour on 24 June 1604, the feast of St John the Baptist, and gave the river its name. But it's only in 1630 that the settlement of the area did start with the construction of Fort La Tour by Charles de La Tour. In 1701, the French governor of Acadia destroyed the fort and established his forces across the bay at Port-Royal. The old French fort was rebuilt by the English in 1758 and renamed "Fort Frederick, "but the Americans destroyed it in 1775. In 1778, the English built "Fort Howe" on the west side of the river, around which pre-Loyalists later established themselves. The community greatly expanded in 1783 when the Loyalists settled on the east side of the harbour in Parr Town, on the west side in Carleton and on the north side in Portland. In 1785, Carleton and Parr Town were incorporated under the name "Saint John"(the first incorporated city in Canada). New Brunswick was made a separate colony in 1784 and Saint John briefly served as the provincial capital before the capital was moved to Fredericton. From the 1820s through the 1840s, the city's growth was linked to a massive flow of immigrants, especially Scots and Irish; late-19th century immigrants came notably from Eastern Europe. In 1889, the adjacent town of Portland became part of the city of Saint John; in 1967, the city further expanded to include the city of Lancaster, the parish of Lancaster and part of the parish of Simonds. Even though the province of New Brunswick was declared officially bilingual, the city of Saint John never was bilingual and has still only "Saint John" as official name. 2, record 11, English, - Saint%20John

2, record 11, French, - Saint%20John

Air traffic is expected to show steady growth in the near future. To cope, we will have to start the construction of a new generation of equipment within the next few years. ONERA is paving the way for this changeover in two ways. First, it is developing new concepts, and even demonstrators, for transfer to manufacturers. The main development in this field is the miniature quartz accelerometer for aircraft and missiles. 2, record 12, English, - quartz%20accelerometer
