A measuring device used to check hydraulic pressure in different components of a hydraulic system.

One of the recommendations of the panel that has attracted the attention of attorneys is that fingerprinting tests showing a phenomenon called band shifting be declared "inconclusive" until laboratories have performed adequate studies on the effect. Band shifting can make two forensic samples from different biological sources appear the same; private companies that perform DNA fingerprinting and the Federal Bureau of investigation have already made attempts to correct for it. But the McKusick panel was not convinced that such attempts protect those accused : a suspect could be wrongly convicted if the "correction" was itself in error.

The activation of the Station's Ku-Band antenna is on standby until procedures are put in place for a possible software patch to account for an apparent pointing error with the dish-shaped antenna. The Ku Band system is used to transmit television, voice and high-speed data to the ground. Normal communication is being managed through the S-Band audio system. Any required TV images, in the meantime, can be accommodated through the use of the laptop computer-based digital video system. Until that problem is corrected, transmission of experiment data from the Human Research Facility experiment rack in the Destiny laboratory is on hold.

On attend que soient établies les procédures selon lesquelles un sous-programme de correction puisse venir à bout d'une erreur apparente de pointage de l'antenne parabolique. Le système en bande Ku sert à l'émission vers la Terre de signaux de télévision, vocaux et à haut débit. Les communications courantes sont présentement assurées par le système audio en bande S. Dans l'intervalle, les images télévisuelles peuvent être transmises via le système vidéo numérique fonctionnant sur ordinateur portable. D'ici à ce que le problème soit corrigé, la transmission des données provenant du bâti d'expérimentation Human Research Facility contenu dans le laboratoire Destiny.

The hysteresis band of pressure gauges(when their construction permits it to be defined), both for new or re-adjusted instruments and for instruments in service, must not exceed the absolute value of the maximum permissible error.

OBS

In the English translation of the Vocabulary of Legal Metrology presented in BSI publication PD6461, the translation of paragraph 9.7.1 (French term ’Erreur de réversibilité’) was rendered as ’Hysteresis error’. It has subsequently been decided that this term is inappropriate and should be replaced by ’Hysteresis band’.
