CONT

An osteo-odonto keratoprosthesis(OOKP) is a type of prosthetic cornea. OOKP surgery, also called tooth in eye surgery, is a multi-stage procedure to create the prosthetic and implant it in the eye. The OOKP is made partly of tooth and jawbone tissue to help prevent rejection of the implant. OOKP surgery is reserved for those with bilateral(in both eyes) corneal blindness.

CONT

Diode CPC is typically used later in the treatment plan, when other treatments have failed. This surgery shrinks the ciliary body, the part of the eye that produces fluid within the eye. The procedure may need to be repeated in order to permanently control eye pressure and possibly relieve eye pain.

CONT

A kind of laser eye surgery designed to change the shape of the cornea to eliminate or reduce the need for glasses and contact lenses in cases of severe myopia(nearsightedness), [by lifting the epithelium and part of the deeper stroma layer].

CONT

In laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis ... the excimer laser and microkeratome are combined for vision correction; the microkeratome is used to shave a thin slice and create a hinged flap in the cornea, the flap is reflected back, the exposed cornea is reshaped by the laser, and the flap is replaced, without sutures, to heal back into position.

[...] La chirurgie LASIK est plus complexe. Oculoplastic surgery is specialised plastic surgery around the eyelids and face. It is also called oculo-facial surgery as the eyelids are continuous with the forehead, cheeks and deals with the related tear system(lacrimal) and orbits(deeper structures surrounding the eyeball). Surgery is primarily for abnormalities of the eyelids and their surrounding tissues, including their position and contour, in order to maintain, restore or improve function and appearance. This includes eyelid cysts and tumours, malpositions such as drooping eyelids(ptosis), staring eyes in thyroid eye disease, watering eyes and artificial(prosthetic) eyes.

CONT

[In photorefractive keratectomy (PRK)] the laser is used to remove the outer layer of the cornea and flatten the cornea. The flattening of the cornea is intended to correct myopia (nearsightedness) and astigmatism (uneven curvature of the cornea that distorts vision). PRK is an ambulatory procedure done in the office with numbing eye drops. It takes about a minute to do and about 3 days to heal. No eye patch need be worn after PRK.

During the LASIK procedure, the laser can be programmed in a variety of different ways. Initially we utilized only the refraction to guide the programming of the laser.... Two other options which are available are wavefront-optimized and wavefront-guided laser treatments.... Wavefront-guided treatments utilize a device to measure your eyes’ wave of light--that is, it measures the exact prescription of your eye across many points throughout your pupil....
