Subject field(s)
  • Chemical Elements and Compounds
  • Paper Manufacturing Processes
Universal entry(ies)
CH3OMgOCO2CH3·xCO2
formula, see observation
OBS

An organic compound, CH3OMgOCO2CH3·xCO2, with x being variable depending on the solvent used. It is prepared by treating a solution of magnesium methoxide with carbon dioxide until saturation is attained. The resulting solution is clear, colorless, and has a pH of approximately 7. 0. It has been recommended as a non-aqueous deacidifying agent for paper, preferably in low concentrations, e. g., 0. 7 to 1. 0%. Its advantages are said to be : 1) a mild pH, due to the neutral character of the solution and direct conversion to magnesium carbonate upon hydrolysis; and 2) convenience of use due to the decreased sensitivity of the solution to water, which assists in preventing premature precipitation.

OBS

Chemical formula: (CH3OMgOCO2CH3·xCO2) with x being variable depending on the solvent used.

DEF

Subject field(s)
  • Mental Disorders
DEF

In the DSM-IV(Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), Ganser's Syndrome is classified as an atypical type of dissociative disorder, related to conditions such as conversion disorder and multiple personality disorder. Ganser's syndrome is an uncommon disorder originally described in prison populations, and was sometimes termed prison psychosis by early clinicians. It is sometimes referred to as "the syndrome of approximate answers, "since individuals with Ganser's usually reply to questions by giving an answer that is slightly off. It is clear that the problem does not involve low IQ, and is not necessarily a form of psychosis. However, patients may exhibit visual hallucinations and apparent clouding of consciousness, raising the question of some neurological condition. Ganser's patients also exhibit physical symptoms that are not due to any know medical disorder.

Subject field(s)
  • Electrical Measurements
  • Electronics
CONT

In selecting an analog-to-digital converter for a particular CCD [charge-coupled device]] application, there is often a trade-off between cost and performance. Certain applications may require only low bit(i. e., coarse) resolution at very slow conversion rates. For example, the application may require only 4 bits of resolution at a 1-ms conversion rate for very low cost.

OBS

conversion rate: term standardized by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

Subject field(s)
  • Geomorphology and Geomorphogeny
OBS

Steam or hot water deposits exist in relatively shallow depths within the earth's crust and can be used directly or by boreholes; the state of engineering allows the conversion into electric power or for a domestic and agricultural utilization. The maintenance of water pressure in a geothermal deposit requires the water injection : it is intended to exploit the heat and not the water. There are two principal types of geothermal deposits : the deposit of high enthalpy, the deposit of low enthalpy.

CONT
