Of a chemical species that has the properties of a base. 2, record 1, English, - basic
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
A base in chemistry is a substance that can accept hydrogen ions or more generally, donate electron pairs. A soluble base is referred to as an alkali if it contains and releases hydroxide ions(OH−) quantitatively. The Brønsted-Lowry theory defines bases as proton(hydrogen ion) acceptors, while the more general Lewis theory defines bases as electron pair donors, allowing other Lewis acids than protons to be included. 3, record 1, English, - basic

Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
3, record 1, French, - basique

If only a portion of the hydrogen of water is replaced by metal, the resulting compound is termed a "hydroxide"; thus, by the action of potassium on water, hydrogen is liberated and caustic potash KHO, potassium hydroxide, is formed. 3, record 2, English, - hydroxide

The process of replacing D20 in ion exchange resins with H20 prior to the disposal of the resins. H20 is forced slowly down through the resin bed so that all the D20 is displaced and the D plus and OD minus ions on the active sites of the resin are replaced by H plus and OH minus ions.

1, record 3, French, - d%C3%A9deut%C3%A9ration
