English

Subject field(s)
  • Plant Biology
  • Biochemistry
CONT

DEF

A small grain or particle in which starch is deposited in the plant cell.

OBS

The shape and size of the granules are characteristic of the plant species; e.g. wheat starch granules are mainly lens-shaped of 20 to 35 microns in diameter or spherical of 2 to 10 microns in diameter (1 micron = 1 millionth of a metre).

OBS

starch granule : term used at the Canadian Grain Commission in the field of cereal terminology.

DEF
