Because some compounds present in the exhaust are soluble in water, quantitative transfer requires that the diluted exhaust be maintained above its dew point by providing sufficient dilution air through the CVS. A supercharger which is located between the carburetor outlet and the intake manifold of the engine is called an internal supercharger. A supercharger thus located serves to provide a uniform distribution of the fuel-air charge to the various cylinders, as well as to increase the density of the charge.
