In liquid chromatography, except when conducted at very high pressures, the compression of the mobile phase is negligible, and the adjusted and net retention volumes are identical. The specific retention volume is then the adjusted retention volume per gram of stationary liquid, active solid, or solvent-free gel.
3, record 3, French, - volume%20de%20r%C3%A9tention%20sp%C3%A9cifique

Record number: 7, Textual support number: 1 CONT
An injection port is necessary in all g. c. [gas chromatography] and h. p. l. c. [high-performance liquid chromatography] systems in which syringe injection is employed. The injection port joins the top of the column to the mobile phase supply line, and has a third outlet through a small orifice covered by a self-sealing septum. Injection of samples is done by inserting the hypodermic syringe containing the sample through this septum so that the point of the needle is immediately above the head of the column. Design of the injection port must be such that it can be maintained at a uniform temperature and will possess a very small dead volume. 4, record 7, English, - injection%20port

4, record 7, French, - chambre%20d%27injection

Device based on the concept of a two-position valve; in the first position the mobile phase passes continuously through one side of the valve while the sample passes through the other side of the valve; rotation of the valve through 180° then enables the mobile phase to sweep the fixed volume of sample into the column. 2, record 9, English, - sampling%20valve

Sample loops are of particular value for repetitive injections and quantitative analyses as no immediate dilution of the sample by the mobile phase occurs.
