The Canadian Air and Precipitation Monitoring Network, CAPMoN, is operated by the Meteorological Service of Canada in order to study the regional patterns and trends of acid rain; and gas, particulate and precipitation chemistry... The network began operating in mid-1983. EMEP was founded by UNECE [United Nations Economic Commission for Europe], WMO [World Meteorological Organization] and UNEP [United Nations Environment Programme] in 1977. In 1983 it became a project under the Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air pollution, itself under the auspices of the ECE Protection of the Environment framework. Currently the national trends networks measure the composition of precipitation and wet deposition using wet-only collectors for both atmospheric and ecological purposes. They are long-term, country-wide, national networks :... Ontario Hydro and the Air and Precipitation Monitoring Network(APN), fall into the third category-research support networks.
