United States SADT test. Scope. This method determines the minimum constant temperature air environment for an organic peroxide at which autoaccelerative decomposition will occur in a specific package.... Summary of method. The organic peroxide in its commercial package is placed in the test chamber. A constant temperature air environment is maintained for seven days. If self-accelerating decomposition does not occur, the test is repeated at a higher temperature. Sufficient tests are made to determine an air temperature at which the package survives and an air temperature at which the sample undergoes autoaccelerative decomposition and damages the package where the temperature difference is not greater than 6 °C. The self-accelerating decomposition temperature(SADT) is reported as the temperature at which decomposition occurs. 1, record 15, English, - self%2Daccelerating%20decomposition%20temperature

Épreuve TDAA des États-Unis. [...] [...] Description sommaire. Constant Volume Sampler(CVS). Motor vehicle exhaust is a complex mixture of unburned fuel, combustion products(including a high water vapor content), and intake air that exits the tail pipe at high temperatures. In simulated driving conditions on the dynamometer, the volume of the exhaust emitted from the tail pipe is continually changing depending on where in the driving cycle the vehicle is(for example, during acceleration, during deceleration, at constant speed, or at idle). To quantitatively determine emission rates from vehicles, we use a constant volume sampling system, which maintains a constant total flow rate of vehicle exhaust plus dilution air. With a CVS system, as exhaust flow increases, such as during heavy acceleration, the dilution air is automatically decreased and the sampling source is representative of exhaust variations. This CVS system provides the source for all exhaust samples collected(regulated and unregulated). Because some compounds present in the exhaust are soluble in water, quantitative transfer requires that the diluted exhaust be maintained above its dew point by providing sufficient dilution air through the CVS. In addition, sampling components, such as the raw exhaust transfer duct and sample lines, must be heated to prevent water condensation. 2, record 23, English, - constant%20volume%20sampling

coefficient of haze(COH)(in atmospheric chemistry) : One technique of measurement of the amount of filterable particulate matter suspended in air which has been used in the past depends upon drawing a measured sample of air(usually 1 000 linear feet) through a paper or membrane filter. A measurement is made of the intensity of light transmitted through the dust spot formed relative to that transmitted through an identical clean filter. The dirtiness of the air is reported in terms of the COH unit. This relates to the quantity of particulate material which produces an optical density, lg(I 0/I) of 0. 01 when measured by light transmission at 400 nm and relative to the transmission of an identical dust-free filter taken as 100%. Thus a filter which transmitted 50% relative to the clean filter has an absorbance of 0. 301 or 30. 1 COH units. This is not a recommended measure of filterable particulate matter since the size, colour and other properties of the aerosol and the air in which it is suspended affect the results. Such supersaturation does develop because frequently there is no "plane surface of pure water (or ice)" available. In the absence of water surfaces and in the absence of condensation nuclei or any wettable surfaces, phase change from vapor to liquid cannot occur due to the free energy barrier imposed by the surface free energy of the embryonic droplets which would then have to form by spontaneous nucleation... Cloud condensation occurs in our atmosphere at relative humidities near 100 per cent only because nature provides an abundance of condensation nuclei. 2, record 27, English, - supersaturation

Needs in this regard include not only investigation of suspected sources of contamination but also monitoring the air/water systems in buildings for general pathogen contamination or contamination by specific biological agents. In point detection as in stand-off detection, many situations will demand neither exceptional sensitivity nor exceptional specificity. The air pressure of the drum was determined when the sample plate was uncovered, leaves were placed on the plate and the reference plate was then uncovered sufficiently to return to the original air pressure. The exposed area on the measuring plate was then equal to leaf area. 1, record 30, English, - air%2Dflow%20planimeter

Sufficient tests are made to determine an air temperature at which the package survives and an air temperature at which the sample undergoes autoaccelerative decomposition and damages the package where the temperature difference is not greater than 6 [degrees) C. The self-accelerating decomposition temperature(SADT) is reported as the temperature at which decomposition occurs. 2, record 32, English, - self%2Daccelerating%20decomposition

[...] Description sommaire. The thermopile heat of combustion detector is at the heart of each heating value transmitter. Air is used as a heat transfer media and flows around the combustion chamber. Any increase in the heat produced by the combustion of a controlled sample of process gas is immediately sensed and reported to the microprocessor. Air enters the combustion chamber on the outside cold junctions where its heat is measured, then flows down the outside of the thermopile towards the viewer to turn through 180° past the end of the thermopile assembly and then flows up through the heat exchanger... to mix with the heated flue gases from the burner. 3, record 36, English, - combustion%20detector

The determination of radiation dose is a two-part process. First, a measurement is made, using, for instance, a dosimeter, a urine specimen or an air sample. Second, this measurement is used in a "dosimetric model" to calculate the dose, usually the effective dose or a conservative estimate of this quantity. Dosimetric models may be simple, as in the case of external gamma exposure, where a dosimeter reading is converted to dose by means of a simple conversion factor. For bioassay, however, the conversion of a urine measurement to a dose requires knowledge of the metabolism of the radionuclide, the time and route of intake, and several other factors. 1, record 37, English, - dosimetric%20model

1, record 38, French, - air%20sursatur%C3%A9

In this method the cyclone is assumed to consist of an environment, an yewall and an eye. The calculation of the maximum potential intensity requires a vertical sounding of temperature, the surface pressure and the surface air temperature. The soundings used in this study were taken at Isla Socorro, Mexico(latitude 18. 72 N, longitude 110, 95 W, WMO 76723) during the period from 1994-97. This location was chosen because the small size of the island should cause only a minor effect on the sounding and the data should provide a good sample of the thermodynamic state of the atmosphere over the Eastern North Pacific Ocean. 2, record 39, English, - vertical%20sounding

3, record 40, French, - rapport%20signal%20%C3%A0%20bruit

An instrument developed by John Aitken for determining the dust content of the atmosphere. In operation, a sample of air is mixed, in an expandable chamber, with a larger volume of dust-free air containing water vapor. Upon a sudden expansion, the chamber cools adiabatically below its dewpoint, and droplets form with the dust particles as nuclei(Aitken nuclei). A portion of these droplets settle on a ruled plate in the instrument and are counted with the aid of a microscope. 1, record 53, English, - Aitken%20dust%2Dcounter

Acoustic microscopy is the term applied to high resolution, high frequency ultrasonic inspection techniques which produce images of features beneath the surface of a sample. Because ultrasonic energy requires continuity of materials to propagate, internal defects such as voids, delaminations and cracks interfere with the transmission and/or reflection of ultrasound signals. Since air is a very poor conductor of ultrasound, gaps within or between samples are easily visualized by the localized changes in the ultrasound. 1, record 54, English, - acoustic%20microscopy

Burner Efficiency Tests and Adjustments... A smoke spot tester is used to measure the soot content of flues gases. The serviceman will adjust the air intake band on the burner until a visually smokeless flame is produced in the combustion chamber. The probe of the smoke testing apparatus is inserted through the hole in the flue pipe and a flue gas sample is drawn through a piece of filter paper. The resulting soot mark on the paper is compared in intensity to a standard chart. The chart shows measurements labelled 0 to 9 and most residential oil furnaces can burn cleanly enough for a 0 to 1 rating... a number 2 smoke is ideal. 1, record 60, English, - smoke%20spot%20tester
