Everytime [one sees] a Dragoon, [one has] to be amazed, particularly by the powerful lower mandible. This lower mandible... is especially seen as a breed characteristic—and of course the beak must be well closed. The latter may require some extra attention from the breeder and often needs regular conditioning to ensure that the beak halves are perfectly aligned. Although dangerous problems require the line to be closed and repairs must be made before the track can be used again, more commonly a track inspector simply downgrades track by imposing a speed restriction that allows continued passage of trains without the need for immediate repair. Some of these "slow orders" are permanent restrictions in places where trains must always move at slower-than-line speeds in order to operate safely. Slow orders imposed because of deteriorated track conditions are temporary slow orders. 3, record 5, English, - slow%20order

While setting off the cars at Maxville, the conductor closed the angle cocks on the adjoining ends of the cars to be separated and did not vent the air, leaving the air brake line charged on the 74 cars left unattended on the main line. This practice is known in the industry as "bottling the air. "During a train service brake application, the head-end air brake pipe pressure is reduced below the tail-end air brake pipe pressure, creating a pressure differential. When the angle cock on a car is closed before the air pressure equalizes in the brake pipe, a pressure wave is created. This wave can initiate a brake release on the car, which will then cause the brakes to release on subsequent cars. 1, record 6, English, - bottling%20the%20air

1, record 21, French, - Ligne%20d%27information%20sur%20la%20sant%C3%A9%20du%20CHEO

Pneumatic systems are often compared to hydraulic systems, but such comparisons can only hold true in general terms.... Control valves are... a necessary part of a typical pneumatic system.... The control valve consists of a lever with two lobes. [In the off position], a spring holds the left poppet closed so that compressed air entering the pressure port cannot flow to the brakes. [In the on position], one lobe of the lever holds the left poppet open and a spring closes the right poppet. Compressed air now flows around the opened left poppet, through a drilled passage, and into a chamber below the right poppet. Since the right poppet is closed, the high-pressure air flows out of the brake port and into the brake line to apply the brakes. To release the brakes, the control valve is returned to the off position. 3, record 25, English, - control%20valve

The fire extinguishing equipment for an airliner such as the Douglas DC-10 incorporates three systems with six pressurized agent containers, two for each engine. The containers for the wing-mounted engines are located in pairs in the leading edge of the wing between the nacelle and the fuselage on each side of the aircraft.... The discharge cartridge is an electrically fired explosive unit that provides force to rupture the disk seal in the outlet port of the container and release the extinguishing agent to the deployment lines. One discharge cartridge is installed on each wing-mounted container and two are installed on the aft-engine container. The discharge cartridge contains two squibs(explosive charges) that are fired by an electric circuit that heats the powder to the ignition point. When the fire extinguisher control handle is pulled down, the electric circuit is closed and the squibs are fired. The force of the explosion ruptures the disk seal, thus releasing the extinguishing agent. A screen in the discharge head prevents particles of the disk from entering the deployment line. 2, record 26, English, - fire%20control%20handle

Cornices may be classified into two main divisions. The open cornice consists of exposed rafter tails and the closed type has the rafter tails enclosed.... Figure 1-7 shows a section of an open cornice. The lookout rafters are made of dressed stock, generally the size of the common rafter. They should extend approximately the same distance above the plate that they project beyond the building line so that they may be firmly spiked to the sides of the common rafters. The part of the lookout rafter that is exposed to view is, in many cases, cut to some ornamental curve at the bottom and to a plumb cut at its end so as to provide a surface on which a hanging gutter may be attached. A fascia board is sometimes nailed to the plumb cut of the rafters to form a solid base for the gutter. The lookout rafters sometimes extend beyond the building as much as 3 feet and are supported by being spiked to the sides of the common rafters. 4, record 34, English, - lookout%20rafter

The purpose of this switch is to avoid overflowing the laundry tub when the automatic washer is discharging its water. The switch is installed on the drain line between the laundry tub and laundry pump. Head pressure from the laundry tub activates the switch. Simultaneously a flow of water forming a loop from the pressure side of the pump through the switch bowl and returning to the pump intake keeps the switch contacts closed.(Pump runs continuously). When the laundry tub is completely empty the pump suction line takes in air. This pocket of air travels through the pump and through the return pressure loop. When the air enters the switch bowl, the pressure gives way to the pump suction side, thus pulling the switch contacts open(pump shuts off). 1, record 56, English, - laundry%20pump%20switch

There are different types of forming machines, each designed for specific types of raw material and end products capable of doing a variety of jobs within reason. With multi-opening presses, the former is stationary. There are some single-opening press line plants, however, where the forming machines must move. In these a single steel belt transits the former and press. Consequently, while the press is closed, the belt cannot move. In this case, the forming machine moves over the board area laying a mat down. Thus the forming is intermittent and not continuous. 3, record 57, English, - forming%20belt
