In the context of the French nuclear waste storage, a multi-barriers disposal is envisaged. Wastes could be put in metallic overpacks disposed in a clay soil. As these overpacks could be made of low carbon steel, it is important to understand the corrosion behaviour of this material in soil during periods of several centuries. 1, record 1, English, - overpack

1, record 1, French, - surconteneur

Duplex stainless steels, consisting of approximately equal amounts of austenite and ferrite, often combine the best features of austenitic and ferritic stainless steels. They generally have good mechanical properties, including high strength and ductility, and the corrosion resistance is often better than conventional austenitic grades. This has lead to a growing use of duplex stainless steels as a material in mechanically loaded constructions. However, detailed knowledge regarding its mechanical properties and deformation mechanisms are still lacking. In this project special emphasis has been placed on the residual stresses and their influence on mechanical behaviour of duplex stainless steels. Due to the difference in coefficient of thermal expansion between the two phases, tensile microstresses are found in the austenitic phase and balancing compressive microstresses in the ferritic phase. 2, record 2, English, - austenitic%20phase

2, record 2, French, - phase%20aust%C3%A9nitique
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 2 CONT
3, record 2, French, - phase%20aust%C3%A9nitique

A metal with a high positive electrode potential as compared with that of the normal hydrogen electrode. A metal is called nobler than another if it can be displaced from its solution by the latter. 1, record 3, English, - noble%20metal

Examples: copper is nobler than zinc, and gold is nobler than copper or zinc. 1, record 3, English, - noble%20metal

In order to avoid any confusion concerning the sign of electrode potentials, the words "noble" and "base" are often preferred because they are unambiguous. For practical electroplating purposes, "noble metal" is often used as a synonym for "precious metal". In general, a nobler metal provides a better resistance to corrosion and chemical attack than a less noble metal. Nevertheless, it is frequently impossible-owing to several intervening effects, such as the formation of surface oxide layers-to predict the behaviour of a metal against corrosion on the strength of electrode potential alone. 1, record 3, English, - noble%20metal

1, record 3, French, - m%C3%A9tal%20noble
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 OBS
1, record 3, French, - m%C3%A9tal%20noble
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 2 OBS
1, record 3, French, - m%C3%A9tal%20noble
