[Humidex] indicates the dry-air temperature that would cause the same level of discomfort. Humidex values above 85 stand for increasingly uncomfortable combinations of heat and humidity.

The term "humidex"(Humidity + index) was coined in 1965 by the Toronto Weather Office.

La sensación térmica en verano. También en verano podemos experimentar más o menos calor a una misma temperatura, en este caso debido a la combinación de temperatura y humedad relativa. En días calurosos, una humedad relativa alta aumenta la sensación de calor, ya que la evaporación del sudor, que es el principal medio para disminuir el calor corporal, se ve dificultada por el exceso de humedad presente en el aire. Por ejemplo, en un día con una temperatura de 30 ºC y humedad relativa de 50 %, la sensación térmica es de 36 ºC.

humidex: no confundir con "índice de humedad", que hace referencia al índice que refleja la disponibilidad hídrica del clima.

An index which gives a numerical value, in the general range of 70-80, reflecting outdoor atmospheric conditions of temperature and humidity as a measure of comfort (or discomfort) during the warm season of the year; equal to 15 plus 0.4 times the sum of the dry-bulb and wet-bulb temperatures in degrees Fahrenheit.

This page shows two of the most interesting tables(Humidex Index and Thom's Index) useful to evaluate how current temperature and relative humidity can affect the sultriness or discomfort sensation and cause health danger in the population.... Thom's Index : Up to 21[°C :] No discomfort. From 21 to 24. Less than half population feels discomfort. From 25 to 27. More than half population feels discomfort. From 28 to 29. Most population feels discomfort and deterioration of psychophysical conditions. From 30 to 32. The whole population feels an heavy discomfort. Over 32. Sanitary emergency due to the the very strong discomfort which may cause heatstrokes.

Indice température-humidité. D'origine américaine, l'indice température-humidité est similaire à l'humidex canadien. C'est l'équivalent estival du facteur éolien en hiver. De même que le vent accentue la perception (et l'impact physiologique) du froid, l'humidité accentue la perception et l'impact de la chaleur. Chacun sait qu'un temps chaud et humide est beaucoup plus pénible qu'un temps chaud et sec!

An index of the degree of water surplus over water need at any given station; it is calculated as humidity index = 100s/n, where s (the water surplus) is the sum of the monthly differences between precipitation and potential evapotranspiration for those months when the normal precipitation exceeds the latter, and where n (the water need) is the sum of monthly potential evapotranspiration for those months of surplus.

The humidity index has two uses in Thornthwaite’s classification: (a) as a component of the moisture index; (b) as a basis for detailed classification of dry climates.
