Rhizodegradation ... is a much slower process than phytodegradation. Microorganisms (yeast, fungi, or bacteria) consume and digest organic substances for nutrition and energy. Certain microorganisms can digest organic substances such as fuels or solvents that are hazardous to humans and break them down into harmless products through biodegradation. Natural substances released by the plant roots -sugars, alcohols, and acids- contain organic carbon that provides food for soil microorganisms, and the additional nutrients enhance their activity. 3, record 8, English, - rhizodegradation

Dynamin is a GTPase responsible for endocytosis in the eukaryotic cell. Dynamins are principally involved in the scission of newly formed vesicles from the membrane of one cellular compartment and their targeting to, and fusion with, another compartment, both at the cell surface(particularly caveolae internalization) as well as at the Golgi apparatus. Dynamin also plays a role in many processes including division of organelles, cytokinesis and microbial pathogen resistance. 2, record 13, English, - dynamin

Si ces modifications augmentent le puits de carbone, elles freineront le changement climatique et induiront une rétroaction négative. There are two different commercial wheat debranning systems, the Tkac (1992) procedure and the ’PeriTec’ process, marketed by Satake Corporation (McGee 1995). In both processes the wheat bran layers are removed by successive passages through modified rice polishers. A short conditioning period (3 to 5 min) is used to ensure that water penetrates into the outer regions only of the seed coat. Abrasion is used first in the Satake process, followed by friction, as in rice polishing. In the Tkac system the outer layers are removed first by friction passages followed by abrasion passages. 4, record 46, English, - debranning%20of%20wheat

Lutte microbienne. 2, record 51, French, - lutte%20microbienne

Two decades of culture-independent studies have confirmed that microbial communities represent the most complex and concentrated pool of phylogenetic diversity on the planet. There remains a need for innovative molecular tools that can further our knowledge of microbial diversity and its functional implications. We present the method and application of serial analysis of ribosomal sequence tags(SARST) as a novel tool for elucidating complex microbial communities, such as those found in soils and sediments. Serial analysis of ribosomal sequence tags uses a series of enzymatic reactions to amplify and ligate ribosomal sequence tags(RSTs) from bacterial small subunit rRNA gene(SSU rDNA) V1-regions into concatemers that are cloned and sequenced. 2, record 57, English, - serial%20analysis%20of%20ribosomal%20sequence%20tags

Microbes dominate most global biogeochemical cycles, and microbial metagenomics(studying the collective microbial genomes) provides invaluable new insights into microbial systems, independent of cultivation. The intestinal microbes are taxonomically complex and constitute an ecologically dynamic community(microbiota) that has long been believed to possess a strong impact on human physiology. Furthermore, they are heavily involved in the maturation and proliferation of human intestinal cells, helping to maintain their homeostasis and can be causative of various diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease and obesity... Through metagenomic analysis, it is now possible to comprehensively explore the genetic nature of the intestinal microbiome, the mutually interacting system comprising the host cells and the residing microbial community. 1, record 72, English, - human%20intestinal%20microbiome

As long as the intestinal microbial population does not penetrate the intestinal barrier, they coexist in relative harmony and in fact play a valuable role in digestion and processing of essential nutrients. Viruses, most of which infect microorganisms, are the most abundant biological entities on the planet. Identifying and measuring the community dynamics of viruses in the environment is complicated because less than one percent of microbial hosts have been cultivated. Also, there is no single gene that is common to all viral genomes, so total uncultured viral diversity cannot be monitored using approaches analogous to ribosomal DNA profiling. Metagenomic analyses of uncultured viral communities circumvent these limitations and can provide insights into the composition and structure of environmental viral communities. 2, record 76, English, - viral%20metagenomics

An alternative approach to mixing through mechanical stirring... is to use the incoming air-stream in a bubble column or airlift reactor. Such systems have been applied successfully to microbial cultures. While having certain desirable properties, such as low shear, in order to achieve adequate mixing an airlift vessel requires careful design. Unfortunately merely increasing the venting rate to give more bubble agitation and nutrient flow is not a ready answer because of problems associated with overgassing. 1, record 86, English, - airlift%20reactor

Fouling causes a loss in the activity of immobilized biocatalysts. This is due to the deposition of solid or colloidal materials(originally suspended in the substrate, around, or in, the pores of the support) preventing access of substrate to the enzyme.... Physical fouling by insoluble debris, fats, microbial activity or synthetic side reactions of the enzymes producing ’polymers’ can be particular problems with porous supports. Coal forms when plants are deposited in swamps, then submerged rapidly enough to limit oxidation but allow microbial decomposition. Biopiles, also known as biocells, bioheaps [and] biomounds... are used to reduce concentrations of petroleum constituents in excavated soils through the use of biodegradation. This technology involves heaping contaminated soils into piles(or "cells") and stimulating aerobic microbial activity within the soils through the aeration and/or addition of minerals, nutrients, and moisture. The enhanced microbial activity results in degradation of adsorbed petroleum-product constituents through microbial respiration. 2, record 95, English, - biopile

In order to prepare efficient immobilized E. coli cells, the type and concentration of bifunctional reagent for cross-linking and the concentration of acrylamide monomer for lattice formation were investigated systematically. These studies showed that microbial cells, macromolecular enzymes and nucleic acids are not lost from the gel lattice during the enzyme reaction, but the low molecular substrate and product can pass freely through the gel lattice. 2, record 97, English, - lattice

Space microbiology studies may be divided into three major categories, each of which will be discussed in light of the current stage of knowledge in that field. The first involves analysis of samples collected outside the Earth's biosphere. The second includes the many studies in which pure cultures of terrestrial microorganisms were evaluated either during or after exposure to components of the spaceflight environment. The third category contains studies of the autoflora of crew members and the microbial load of recoverable spacecraft components which were performed to evaluate changes in populations of microorganisms. 2, record 99, English, - space%20microbiology
