The easement of light is a negative easement or a species of negative easement. It is a right acquired in augmentation of the ordinary rights incident to the ownership and enjoyment of land, and may be defined as a right which a person may acquire, as the owner or occupier of a building with windows or apertures, to prevent the owner or occupier of an adjoining piece of land from building or placing upon the latter's land anything which has the effect of "illegally" obstructing or obscuring the light coming to the building of the owner of the easement.(Halsbury, 3rd ed., Vol. 12, p. 583). 1, record 16, English, - easement%20for%20light

The fact that the word "status" does not restrict the statute in the manner proposed by the appellants is clear from the way the term has been qualified in the case law, and in the submissions of the parties. The very issue in this appeal has been characterized as whether s. 5(1) of the Code includes complaints based on "relative status" as opposed to "absolute status". The essence of the appellants’ argument is that the ordinary meaning of the word "status" refers to an absolute condition; the inclusion of relative status within the scope of the definition would require the addition of a qualification. We cannot agree. The word "status" is equally capable of encompassing both the absolute definition and the relative definition. Moreover, the terms "marital status" and "family status" are in themselves relative. That is, they require the existence or absence of a relationship with another person. To restrict its meaning to the absolute would ignore the very condition that brings the status into being in the first place. 1, record 25, English, - relative%20status

1, record 25, French, - %C3%A9tat%20au%20sens%20relatif

The closest one could come to having a "little person" or an "inner eye" that perceives the brain's activity would be in the self-symbol-a complex subsystem that is a model of the full system. But the self-symbol does not perceive by having its own repertoire of smaller symbols(including its own self-symbol-an obvious invitation to infinite regress). Rather, the self-symbol' s joint activation with ordinary(nonreflexive) symbols constitutes the system's perception. Perception resides at the level of the full system, not at the level of the self-symbol. If you want to say that the self-symbol perceives something, it is only in the sense that a male moth perceives a female moth, or in the sense that your brain perceives your heart rate-at a level of microscopic intercellular chemical messages. 1, record 37, English, - self%2Dsymbol
