When electromagnetic radiation in the ultraviolet and visible regions passes through a compound containing multiple bonds, a portion of the radiation is usually absorbed by the compound. Just how much of the radiation is absorbed depends on the wavelength of the radiation and the structure of the compound. The absorption of radiation is caused by the substraction of energy from the radiation beam when electrons in orbitals of lower energy are excited into orbitals of higher energy.... The heme enzymes catalase and peroxidase have distinctive absorption spectra due to their heme prosthetic groups. 3, record 4, English, - absorption%20spectrum

3, record 8, French, - groupement%20prosth%C3%A9tique

A test strip was produced by adsorbing the enzyme reagent, glucose oxidase, peroxidase and a chromogen, on to a paper(cellulose) pad. The pad containing the dried reagents is cemented to the end of a plastic strip and responds with a colour change when wetted with a solution containing glucose such as urine or blood. The development of test strips for the determination of glucose in whole blood and serum has made blood assay almost as simple as the detection of urine glucose. In this case the reagent pad is treated with ethyl cellulose which forms a membrane through which small molecules can readily diffuse, but the presence of the coating prevents cells from being adsorbed on the cellulose fibres and allows them to be washed away. 2, record 16, English, - test%20strip

Using chromatofocusing analysis, physiological differences between mature and immature flower buds were clarified with respect to their proteinaceous components in pistils. There were differences between mature and immature flower buds in soluble proteins, glycoproteins and peroxidase isozymes in stigmas, styles and ovaries. No differences in esterase and alkaline phosphatase isozymes were observed between the 2 kinds of flower buds, Scanning electron microscopy showed that stigma exudate of immature flower buds was less abundant than that of mature ones. 2, record 24, English, - chromatofocusing
