Subject field(s)
  • Photoelectricity and Electron Optics
  • Radar, Radio Guidance and Goniometry
  • Audiovisual Techniques and Equipment
  • Space Exploration Equipment and Tools
OBS

MEOSS is a single optics and single spectral band camera. Three CCD's [charge coupled devices] working in pushbroom mode are mounted perpendicular to the flight direction on a common focal plate. Their oblique views of + and-23 degrees forward and backward, as well as nadir oriented, lead to threefold stereoscopic images. This principle allows a nearly simultaneous generation of all three images of a stereo triplet.

DEF

A type of pressure-plate anemometer in which the plate, restrained by a stiff spring, is held perpendicular to the wind.

CONT

Santorio Santorre [1625] describes the earliest normal-plate anemometer. A surface is held normal to the wind. His anemometer consists of a flat plate rising from the end of a steel yard. Being a medical man, Santorio was interested in anemometry to study how strong winds seemed to be good for some people and bad for others.

OBS

The wind-activated motion of the plate is measured electrically. The natural frequency of this system can be made high enough so that resonance magnification does no occur.

The drawer includes 2 Lexan plates that will be attached to the internal surface of the drawer side panels. The Lexan plates will center the foam block in the drawer and have grooves that allow the bottle retention plate(guillotine) to slide in perpendicular to the Lexan plates in 2 locations. The guillotine is placed in front of the bottles for launch and landing and placed behind the bottles for operation.
