Tropical cyclones are experienced in several areas of the world. In general, they form over the tropical oceans(except the South Atlantic and the eastern South Pacific) and affect the eastern and equatorward portions of the continents. They occur in the tropical North Atlantic(including the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico), the North Pacific off the west coast of Mexico and occasionally as far west as Hawaii, the western North Pacific(including the Philippine Islands and the China Sea), the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, the southern Indian Ocean off the coasts of Madagascar and the northwest coast of Australia, and the South Pacific Ocean from the east coast of Australia to about 140°W. 6, record 4, English, - tropical%20cyclone
Record number: 4, Textual support number: 2 OBS
By international agreement, tropical cyclones have been classified according to their intensity as follows: 1) tropical depression, with winds up to 17 m s-1(34 knots); 2) tropical storm, with winds of 18-32 m s-1(35-64 knots); and 3) severe tropical cyclone, hurricane or typhoon, with winds of 33 m-1(65 knots) or higher. It should be noted that the wind speeds referred to above are 10-min average wind speeds at standard anemometer level (10 m), except that in the United States, 1-min average wind speeds are used. 6, record 4, English, - tropical%20cyclone
Record number: 4, Textual support number: 3 OBS
Tropical cyclone (South-West Indian Ocean): maximum wind speed of 64 to 90 knots. Tropical cyclone (Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea, South-East Indian Ocean, South Pacific): maximum wind speed of 34 knots or more. 4, record 4, English, - tropical%20cyclone

7, record 4, French, - cyclone%20tropical

The botanical name for the bromeliad or pineapple family of plants is Bromeliaceae. There are 60 genera containing some 1400 different species. Bromeliads grow within a wide area in southern U. S. A., Central and South America : from the Atlantic Ocean in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west and including the islands of the West Indies and the Caribbean. This family is among the most versatile of the whole plant kingdom, for its members grow in almost every kind of habitat. Numerous bromeliads grow on trees and enormous cacti, and even on telephone wires. Some species that grow high in trees are often called air plants or air pines because they appear to take their nourishment solely from the atmosphere. 3, record 8, English, - bromelia

2, record 8, French, - brom%C3%A9lia

... over the South Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Brazil, the shielding effect of the magnetosphere is not quite spherical but shows a "pothole, "a dip, which scientists explain as a result of the eccentric displacement of the center of the magnetic field from the geographical center of the Earth... as well as the displacement between the magnetic and geographic poles of Earth. For orbits tilted... and having altitudes of a few hundred miles, this oddity, called the South Atlantic Anomaly(SAA) becomes important, because spacecraft in those orbits periodically pass through that zone of reduced natural shielding and thus spend a few minutes during each passage exposed to higher particle flux than outside it. 2, record 9, English, - South%20Atlantic%20anomaly

1, record 9, Spanish, - anomal%C3%ADa%20del%20Atl%C3%A1ntico%20Sur

The Southern Ocean, also known as the Great Southern Ocean, the Antarctic Ocean and the South Polar Ocean, comprises the southernmost waters of the World Ocean south of 60° S latitude. The International Hydrographic Organization has designated the Southern Ocean as an oceanic division encircling Antarctica. Geographers disagree on the Southern Ocean's northern boundary or even its existence, sometimes considering the waters part of the South Pacific, South Atlantic, and Indian Oceans instead. Some scientists consider the Antarctic Convergence, an ocean zone which fluctuates seasonally, as separating the Southern Ocean from other oceans, rather than 60° S. This ocean zone forms from the convergence of two circumpolar currents, one easterly flowing and one westerly flowing. The International Hydrographic Organization(IHO) regards the Southern Ocean as the fourth-largest of the five principal oceanic divisions and the latest-defined one. 3, record 10, English, - Antarctic%20Ocean
