SUPERSONIC COMBUSTION RAMJET [3 records]

Record 1 2011-09-09

English

Subject field(s)
  • Launchers (Astronautics)
CONT

A ramrocket engine combines a rocket-cycle with a ramjet cycle. The "heart" of such a rocket-based combined-cycle engine is the ejector where the propulsive streams of both cycles mix. The propulsive efficiency of the ramrocket will greatly depend on the losses incurred in the ejector of the engine. In this project, computational fluid dynamic methods are employed to numerically simulate the turbulent mixing of supersonic/subsonic flows in the presence of finite-rate kerosene/air combustion. The effects of geometry of the ejector and afterburning in the rocket exhaust on flow losses in the ejector and its compression ratio are explored. The ramrocket is a candidate for "next generation" air-breathing reusable space launchers

DEF

DEF

A ramjet in which the combustion takes place within a supersonic airflow.

CONT

A ScramJet is a "Supersonic Combustion Ramjet" this device is built to function very similarly to a ramjet with the exception that it may burn hydrogen as a fuel instead of conventional jet-fuel. Because of the different fuel and an optmized design, a ScramJet engine is capable of hypersonic speeds of Mach 6 and above.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Aircraft Propulsion Systems
CONT

The most promising hypersonic technologies are hybrid engines known as airturboramjets. At low speeds, the engine would use turbines to compress the air before it mixes it with fuel. At higher speeds, the tremendous force of the incoming supersonic airstream itself would become the compressor.

OBS

For instance, the scramjet(supersonic combustion ramjet).

DEF

PHR

Moteur hypersonique à cycles combinés statoréacteurs-superstato-réacteurs.
