CONT

The goal of antimicrobial susceptibility testing is to predict the in vivo success or failure of antibiotic therapy. Tests are performed in vitro, and measure the growth response of an isolated organism to a particular drug or drugs. The tests are performed under standardized conditions so that the results are reproducible. The test results should be used to guide antibiotic choice. The results of antimicrobial susceptibility testing should be combined with clinical information and experience when selecting the most appropriate antibiotic for your patient.

CONT

The emergence and dissemination of resistance has made it imperative for laboratories to use in vitro tests that can detect resistance. The concept of antimicrobial resistance testing(ART) should replace antimicrobial susceptibility testing(AST). ART requires flexibility in testing systems and current AST methods are often handicapped. This is due to an over emphasis on standardization, not accounting for the diversity and complexity of resistance mechanisms.

The pilot survey for antimicrobial (AMR) resistant bacteria in Australian food is designed to provide data that can be used to estimate the prevalence of AMR bacteria in selected foods purchased at retail outlets. Four retail foods; poultry, beef, pork and lettuce along with four target organisms; Campylobacter, Salmonella, Escherichia coli and Enterococcus constitute the nine food / bacterium combinations included in the survey. ... The results of AMR testing indicated that resistance to the majority of antimicrobials tested is low (< 10%).

Survivability involves vulnerability to exposure to threats and hazards and susceptibility to damage. This section has implications for Survivability Engineering, dealing with such considerations as construction to withstand hurricane winds, design to prevent detection by radar, encryption of signals, armor plating, etc. Consider the trade-off implications, such as increased weight and complexity. Plan for an adequate test and evaluation program, including possibly testing of prototypes to destruction.

  • Pulp Preparation (papermaking)
CONT

All cellulosic material yellow with age. The rate is influenced by the chemical composition of the pulp and by the environmental conditions such as temperature, alkalinity or acidity, presence or absence of oxygen, humidity, quality and intensity of illumination. Pulps of high lignin content which have been whitened only by reductive treatment are particularly sensitive to brightness reversion. The susceptibility of a pulp to brightness reversion is determined by testing the brightness of a standard brightness sheet before and after heating the pulp sheet at 105°C, usually for 1 h or longer. The brightness loss may be expressed as a difference, i. e. 89. 7-85. 2=4. 5 points drop in brightness on aging, but the significance of this drop is a function of the original brightness.

OBS

The post-colour (p.c.) number is a way of expressing the brightness loss independent of the original brightness ... The lower the number, the more stable is the pulp brightness.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Préparation de la pâte à papier
CONT
