Common acute or chronic inflammation of the joint capsule of the carpus and the associated structures in horses. 5, record 11, English, - carpitis
Record number: 11, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Some confusion exists regarding the terms carpitis and osselets; therefore, a definition is appropriate. Carpitis is an acute or chronic inflammation of the carpal joint that may involve the fibrous joint capsule, synovial membrane, associated ligaments, and bones of the carpus... Osselets has been defined as a traumatic arthritis of the metacarpophalangeal joint. It is more appropriate to restrict the term osselets to describe the thickening associated with synovitis and capsulitis of the fibrous joint capsule at the dorsal aspect of the metacarpophalangeal joint. Ossification can develop as a chronic change. 6, record 11, English, - carpitis

Record number: 11, Textual support number: 4 CONT
The acute form is common in Thoroughbreds in training. Carpitis is usually attributed to concussion from hard training, especially in immature and unfit horses. Injury to the dorsal aspect of the carpus is a common cause, especially in hunters and jumpers. 9, record 11, English, - carpitis

Some confusion exists regarding the terms carpitis and osselets; therefore, a definition is appropriate. Carpitis is an acute or chronic inflammation of the carpal joint that may involve the fibrous joint capsule synovial membrane, associated ligaments, and bones of the carpus... Osselets has been defined as a traumatic arthritis of the metacarpophalangeal joint. It is more appropriate to restrict the term osselets to describe the thickening associated with synovitis and capulitis of the fibrous joint capsule at the dorsal aspect of the metacarpophalangeal joint. Ossification can develop as a chronic change. 3, record 15, English, - osselets

1, record 15, French, - arthrite%20chronique%20d%C3%A9formante%20du%20carpe

A lesion at the end of a long bone which appears to be confined to the subchondral area. These lesions are thought to arise from ingrowth of synovial membrane, but a connection between the marrow cavity and the surface of the bone is not apparent radiologically. Cysts may also occur in the shaft of a phalanx. 1, record 16, English, - subchondral%20cyst
