Synthetic felt is made from polyester or other man-made fibers that are combined, into felt material using a needle punch process or heat. It has a soft texture and is manufactured using different types of fibers to produce varying levels of harness and strength. [It] is commonly used for dunnage, anti-squeak applications, crating, filtration, padding, wipers, and a wide range of other applications. Because it is 100% synthetic, this material is highly mildew and wear resistant, and can withstand higher temperatures than wool felt. 2, record 1, English, - synthetic%20felt

The evolution of press clothing from "conventional felts" to engineered fabrics has paralleled changes in paper machine design. Originally, all felts were woven from spun yarns and were mechanically felted or "fulled" to provide bulk and stability. These felts, manufactured mainly from wool, had low vertical permeability and poor service life. The needling process developed in the 1950's made possible the introduction of the "batt-on-base" felt. This construction involves the vertical needling of a fibrous web(batt) onto a woven base fabric. This change allowed higher percentages of synthetic fibers to be used. 1, record 3, English, - needling%20process

The wet web is held tightly against the cylinders by a synthetic, permeable fabric called a dryer felt. The fabric also serves to support and guide the sheet through the dryer section.(In some cases, it also aids in controlling cross-direction shrinkage and keeps the sheet flat, i. e., prevents sheet cockling.) 1, record 4, English, - sheet%20cockling

Where greater demands are made on the effectiveness of the rubbing seal, particularly for oil lubricated bearings, lip seals are often used in preference to felt seals.
