Animals in this group received implantations of their own genetically modified fibroblasts (i.e. autografts) into the Nucleus Basalis of Meynert (NBM). The NBM was chosen as an injection site because it contains NGF-responsive cholinergic cell bodies (Mandel et al. 1989), permitting assessment of responses of intact cholinergic neurites to NGF-secreting of control cells. 2, record 1, English, - nucleus%20basalis%20of%20Meynert

1, record 1, French, - noyau%20basal%20de%20Meynert

Several neuropeptides are widely distributed in regions of the central nervous system (CNS) which are associated with cognitive functions. Multiple studies on postmortem Alzheimer's disease (AD) brains have shown depleted neuropeptide content and morphological abnormalities of somatostatin (SS)-containing interneurons in the hippocampus and the cerebral cortex ... AD patients were found to have reduced 125I-Tyr11-SS-14 receptor densities in the frontal cortex ,.. Excitotoxic lesion of the nucleus basalis magnocellularis (NbM) with ibotenic acid transiently decreased neocortical SS receptor binding densities indicating that a subpopulation of SS receptors is located on cholinergic afferents ... 1, record 2, English, - nucleus%20basalis%20magnocellularis
