CONTROLLED DEPLETION POLYMER ANTIFOULING PAINT [2 records]

Record 1 2006-06-14

English

Subject field(s)
  • Paints and Varnishes (Industries)
  • Crop Protection
  • Ship Maintenance
CONT

A careful balance is needed between the amount of rosin required to provide sufficient biocide release and the quantity of the other film-forming components used to make the coating tough and durable. As the rosin content increases the binder system becomes softer and more soluble in seawater whereas a low rosin content makes the binder system virtually insoluble and hard. Antifoulings which are softer and more soluble are known as “controlled depletion polymer” (CDP) or soluble matrix antifoulings, whereas the hard types are known as insoluble matrix or “contact leaching” antifoulings.

Key term(s)
  • controlled depletion polymer anti-fouling
  • CDP anti-fouling
  • controlled solubility copolymer anti-fouling paint
  • controlled depletion polymer anti-fouling paint

CONT

Nautilus Self-Polishing unit les avantages de la peinture antifouling à matrice soluble, parce qu'il consent à la pellicule de la peinture de se consommer progressivement, afin de toujours offrir une nouvelle couche.

Key term(s)
  • peinture antisalissure à base de polymère à épuisement contrôlé
  • peinture antisalissure à matrice soluble

DEF

An antifouling with both SPC [self-polishing copolymer] and CDP [controlled depletion polymer] features.

OBS

Hybrid SPC/CDP systems: This relatively new antifouling type is a blend of a hydrolysable TBT[tributyltin] -free SPC technology (copper acrylate SPC) with the rosin-based CDP technology. By carefully combining these two technologies to form a "hybrid", it is possible to produce an antifouling which has the CDP features of surface tolerance and attractive volume solids, together with the SPC benefits of polishing rate control, control of biocide release and reduced leached layer size.

Key term(s)
  • hybrid self polishing copolymer/controlled depletion polymer antifouling paint
  • hybrid SPC/CDP anti-fouling
  • hybrid SPC/CDP anti-fouling paint
