En 1979 l'association est née d’un regroupement de 18 parents dont les enfants étaient atteints du Syndrome de Down ou de Trisomie 21. L'association avait comme but de trouver les éléments ou techniques pour favoriser le développement physique, intellectuel et social de ces enfants. Ce regroupement s’appelait «Société d’aide au développement affectif de l'enfant». Nous étions alors une filiale du groupement de Montréal. À la suite de la dissolution du regroupement de Montréal, nous avons décider de continuer notre groupement sous le nom de «Association du Syndrome de Down de l'Estrie».
