A substance that induces flocculation, i.e. the formation of large separable particles by aggregation of small particles suspended in aqueous systems, a process usually aided by mechanical, physical, chemical or biological means. 7, record 2, English, - flocculant
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
With thickened tailings, tailings and liquid are combined with a floculant to create a mix that is thicker than the traditional mix or water and tailings called "slurry." Because the tailings contain less water and are thicker, a smaller disposal area is needed for surface disposal than with a traditional tailings slurry. 8, record 2, English, - flocculant
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Flocculants are used in water purification and liquid waste treatment. They can be inorganic (e.g. lime, alum, and ferric chloride) or organic (e.g. polyelectrolytes). They can speed up the process or increase the critical mass of the agglomerated colloids. 7, record 2, English, - flocculant

4, record 2, French, - floculant
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 2 CONT
5, record 2, French, - floculant

"F. Martin's Recording balance" produced by the Prolabo Co., Paris, works on the hydrometer principle. A cylindrical container is hung from the right balance arm and is surrounded by an external sedimentation cylinder. The suspended material is poured into the cylinder, and the scales are balanced. As the particles gradually settle, the buoyancy operating in the inner cylinder becomes smaller. The force exerted on the left balance beam is therefore increased proportionally to the weight of the settling particles. The scales are automatically kept balanced during the whole sedimentation process. 1, record 7, English, - Martin%27s%20recording%20balance

1, record 7, French, - balance%20Martin
