A flight director is a highly sophisticated system that electronically collects the information provided by a number of instruments, feeds this information into a computer and presents it in two visual displays. The two instruments that provide this visual display are a horizontal situation indicator (HSI) and an attitude director indicator (ADI). En actionnant les diverses gouvernes de l’avion au travers des équipements du système de commande vol, le pilote est capable de diriger et d’orienter son appareil en fonction des besoins ou des phases de vol. Le système de commandes de vol sait dialoguer avec les autres systèmes de l’avion (suivi de terrain, pilote automatique, ...).
