The Transformative Technologies Program, announced by Minister Emerson on September 20, 2005, shares with Canadian industry in the costs of innovation and technology adoption projects. Its goal is to support leading-edge industrial research in Canada and to ensure that Canadian firms are competitive in the global economy. It is the successor program to Technology Partnerships Canada, which Minister Emerson announced will be wound down over the coming months.

The mission of CanSTEP: To foster the adoption and deployment of STEP in Canada in order to enhance industrial competitiveness. "What is STEP? STEP is a neutral mechanism for describing, sharing, storing and exchanging product data throughout the complete life cycle of a product. STEP capability is based on the Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Data and was registered as an International Standard, ISO 10303, in April 1995. The STEP organization worldwide is complex with member groups involving close to 40 countries.
