Differential Display (DD) ... and a conceptually similar technique, arbitrarily primed PCR fingerprinting of RNA (APPCR)19, both PCR amplify subsets of an mRNA population and separate the resulting cDNAs by denaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Since the introduction of DD in 1992, over 100 reports regarding improvements and/or successful applications have been published. Although DD has the appearance of being technically easy, the road from "band on the gel" to a positive can be treacherous as outlined in a recent commentary. The primary criticisms are (1) a high false positive rate, (2) questioned ability of DD to identify both abundant and rare mRNAs, (3) coding regions of mRNAs are usually not cloned, and (4) verification process is time consuming and usually requires a fair amount of RNA. 5, record 3, English, - differential%20display

The rate of a particular enzyme-catalysed reaction can often be measured in a number of ways but there is normally one method which is more convenient than the others... The quantitative assay of enzyme activity is carried out most quickly and conveniently when the substrate or the product is colored or absorbs light in the ultraviolet region because the rate of appearance or disappearance of a light-absorbing product or substrate can be followed with a spectrophotometer, giving a continuous record of the progress of the reaction on a strip chart... Enzyme catalysed reactions can be monitored spectrophotometrically, as many of the substrates or products of enzymes absorb visible or non-visible light. This is the commonest and simplest method of assaying enzymes. 2, record 4, English, - assay%20of%20enzyme%20activity

Hypersensitivity caused by antibody to cell surface antigens. These can sensitize the cells for antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity by K cells, or complement mediated lysis. Type II hypersensitivity is seen in the destruction of red blood cells in transfusion reactions, and in haemolytic disease of the newborn. The destruction of tissue in auto-immune diseases such as myathenia gravis is partly antibody-mediated. 3, record 12, English, - type%20II%20hypersensitivity%20reaction

On initial contact with antigen, the T cell undergoes clonal proliferation and differentiates into sensitized lymphocytes or committed T cells with various functions. Some cells become activated and are responsible for mediating cellular immunity or resulting in injury to host tissue (hypersensitivity reactions). Others become T memory cells, thereby increasing the number of cells with the ability to react to specific antigen. Still others become helper or suppressor cells, regulating B cell production of antibody ... 1, record 13, English, - activated
