3, record 44, French, - laboratoire%2Dsur%2Dpuce
Record number: 44, Textual support number: 2 CONT

The number of molecules (or atoms) reacting per unit time. It has been explained by a combination of two theoretical models, the so-called collision theory and the transition state theory.... The collision theory provides a qualitative description of the factors that affect rate and proposes that reactions occur as a result of collisions between the reacting species.... The transition state theory expands upon the collision theory by proposing that an unstable transition state, or activated complex, is formed when reactants collide with the proper orientation and with a collision energy at least equal to the activation energy. 1, record 81, English, - reaction%20rate

1, record 81, French, - vitesse%20de%20r%C3%A9action

Study of the rate at which a reaction proceeds and of the reaction mechanism, the intermediate steps constituting the overall reaction. The reaction rate is the rate of change of the concentrations of a reactant or product expressed in moles per liter per second (mol/1-sec.). It varies with temperature, and the presence (or absence) of catalyst, and the concentration of one or more products or other molecular species. When these conditions are fixed, it is equal to the rate constant for the reaction multiplied by the product of the concentration of the reactants, with each concentration raised to a specific power. 1, record 82, English, - kinetics

In 1913 a general theory of enzyme action and kinetics was developed by L. Michaelis and M.L. Menten, which was later extended by G.E. Briggs and J.B.S. Haldane. This theory, which is basic to the quantitative analysis of all aspects of enzyme kinetics and inhibition, is best developed for the simple case of a reaction in which there is only one substrate. 2, record 82, English, - kinetics

3, record 93, French, - groupement%20prosth%C3%A9tique

Many of the examples of covalent catalysis in enzyme-catalysed reactions involve attack by a nucleophilic side chain at an electron-deficient centre in the substrate; such attack is termed nucleophilic catalysis. Examples of nucleophilic catalysis are provided by chymotrypsin and fructose-bisphosphate aldolase, in these cases the nucleophilic side chains are those of serine and lysine respectively. Other types of side chain which have been found to participate in nucleophilic catalysis include cysteine ... and histidine.... 3, record 95, English, - covalent%20catalysis

2, record 95, French, - catalyse%20covalente

Promotion of a chemical reaction by addition of a substance or enzyme (catalyst) that partakes in, but is not permanently affected by the reaction. In the case of enzymes, it is mediated by the functional groups found in amino acid side chains and coenzymes. Notably, the amino acid side chains of histidine, serine, cysteine, lysine, glutamate, and aspartate are frequently directly involved in the catalytic process. Coenzymes or metals work in conjunction with enzymes to provide a greater variety of functional groups than is available through amino acid side chains alone. 2, record 97, English, - catalysis

DNA technology enables the facile modification of proteins by highly specific mutagenesis of their genes. Enzymes with novel properties may be produced in large quantities from the mutant genes. Kinetic analysis of the mutant enzymes can be combined with high-resolution structural data from protein X-ray crystallography to provide direct measurements on the relationships between structure and function. In particular, the strength and nature of enzyme-substrate interactions and their roles in catalysis and specificity may be studied. 3, record 97, English, - catalysis

Chromatography based on the specific chemical (covalent) reaction of the chromatographic material with only one of the components of a mixture. After removal of the other components by washing, the covalently bonded component is released by reaction with a suitable reagent. The reaction that releases the component of interest should preferably leave the chromatographic material in a form that can easily be reactivated. This type of chromatography differs from conventional affinity chromatography by its reliance on scission and formation of covalent bonds during the separation process and by the lack of a requirement for specific adsorptive binding areas of the activating ligand. 2, record 98, English, - covalent%20chromatography

Method based on the covalent attachment of enzymes to water insoluble matrices. It is the most widespread and one of the most investigated approaches to enzyme immobilisation. The selection of conditions for immobilization is more difficult than in the cases of the other carrier binding methods described, and frequently involves more complicated and less mild conditions than the other methods, but, since covalent bonds are being formed, stable immobilized enzyme preparations which do not leach enzyme into solution in the presence of substrate or high ionic concentration solutions are formed in almost all cases. The immobilization of an enzyme by covalent attachment to a support matrix must involve only functional groups of the enzyme that are not essential for catalytic action, and therefore no reagents must be used which could affect the binding and active sites of the enzyme. 2, record 99, English, - covalent%20binding
