A tennis match considered won by a player as a result of the disqualification of his or her opponent.

OBS

Disqualification can be caused by many factors, among others, tardiness, absentia, etc. Compare with "retire", term used in the perspective of the loser. By extension, the term "walkover" has also come to mean an uncontested victory by the opponent of a disqualified player or, what is worse, sarcastically, an easy victory by one player over another in a match that was not forfeited. These usages should be discouraged in order to contain the number of concepts associated with this term.

L’adjectif «scalaire» se dit d’une grandeur qui peut être simplement rapportée à un nombre, qui renseignera complètement sur l’état de cette grandeur. En physique, une température, une masse sont des grandeurs scalaires. Ces grandeurs scalaires, qui sont pour ainsi dire indifférentes à la situation dans l’espace de l’objet mathématique qu’elles quantifient, c’est-à-dire indépendantes de toute notion d’orientation ou de direction, s’opposent ainsi aux grandeurs vectorielles, pour lesquelles ces notions interviennent : en physique, une force, une vitesse sont des grandeurs vectorielles, car elles ne sont pas caractérisables uniquement par leur mesure, mais aussi par leur direction.

Nous suggérons de traduire cette phrase par ce qui suit : On a utilisé une transformation en sinus et en cosinus pour exprimer en grandeurs scalaires la vitesse et la direction du vent(sud et ouest).
