Accordingly, when a standard radiobioassay method detects a surrogate radionuclide (e.g., 144Ce), that discovery, in light of the known or typical association of the surrogate with other radionuclides, may indicate that associated radionuclides that can only be detected by some supplementary in vivo counting techniques or special analyses (e.g., fission track analysis for 239Pu in urine) are also present.
